How to hire an IFS consultant

A practical guide for companies hiring IFS consultants: where to find them, what to specify and how to assess them. Updated 10 October 2026.

Short answer. Specify the module, the IFS version and the project phase before you search. Then use three channels at once: an IFS partner for a team, a specialist IFS recruiter for individual contractors or permanent hires, and direct reach to freelancers. Generic job boards rarely reach IFS people.

1. Write the brief

  • Module and industry (for example, IFS Cloud Finance in a project-based manufacturer)
  • Version: IFS Cloud, Apps 10 or earlier
  • Phase: design, build, migration, testing, cutover or support
  • Contract or permanent, location and start date

2. Pick the channel

3. Assess

Ask for the last two implementations, their exact role and the go-live outcome. Have your own lead walk through one real scenario from your business. References from the customer side tell you more than certificates.

Questions people ask

How long does it take to hire an IFS consultant?

It depends on the module and how scarce it is. Scarce specialisms such as scheduling optimisation or aviation maintenance take longer than finance or supply chain.

Should I hire a contractor or use a partner?

Use a partner when you need a team and accountability for an outcome. Use contractors to fill specific gaps in a team you are managing yourself.
