IFS career guide
What industries use IFS?
The industries IFS focuses on and what that means for consultants and partners. Updated 10 October 2026.
Short answer. IFS focuses on six industry groups: aerospace and defence, energy, utilities and resources, construction and engineering, manufacturing, service industries and telecommunications. What they share is complex physical assets, projects or field service, which is where IFS is strongest.
Why these industries
IFS combines ERP with asset management and service management. That fits companies that build, maintain or service complex things: aircraft, power networks, factories, infrastructure and equipment in the field.
What it means for careers
Industry knowledge is a real asset in IFS. A consultant who understands defence maintenance or utility field work is harder to replace than a generalist. Partners specialise the same way; see IFS partners by industry and country.
