IFS career guide
What is IFS FSM?
What IFS Field Service Management is, how it relates to IFS Cloud and PSO, and the jobs around it. Updated 10 October 2026.
Short answer. IFS FSM stands for IFS Field Service Management. It manages the work of field technicians: service requests, contracts and warranties, parts, mobile work execution and scheduling. IFS built its field service business on the 2012 acquisition of Metrix, and service management is now also part of IFS Cloud.
What it does
- Service requests, contracts, warranties and SLAs
- Mobile app for technicians, including offline work
- Parts, returns and repair
- Scheduling and dispatch, often with IFS PSO
FSM and IFS Cloud
FSM exists as a product in its own right and many customers still run it. New service management projects are increasingly delivered on IFS Cloud. Consultants with FSM experience are wanted for both.

Questions people ask
Is IFS FSM the same as IFS Cloud?
No. FSM is a standalone field service product. IFS Cloud includes its own service management capability, and new projects increasingly use that.
What is the difference between FSM and PSO?
FSM manages service work end to end. PSO is the optimisation engine that decides which technician does which job and when.
