What is IFS PSO?
What IFS Planning and Scheduling Optimization does and where PSO skills are used. Updated 10 October 2026.
Short answer. IFS PSO stands for Planning and Scheduling Optimization. It is the engine that automatically assigns jobs to field technicians and resources, re-planning in real time as jobs overrun, traffic changes or urgent work arrives. It works with IFS FSM and IFS Cloud and can also schedule for other systems.
What it does
- Builds and continuously re-optimises the schedule against travel, skills, parts and SLAs
- Longer-range capacity and shift planning
- What-if modelling of demand and workforce changes
Why it is a specialism
Tuning PSO is closer to operations research than to ERP configuration. Good PSO consultants understand the business rules behind a schedule and can prove the gain in travel time and jobs per day. They are scarce, which keeps demand steady.
