What does an IFS functional consultant do?

The day-to-day work of an IFS functional consultant, the skills needed and how many roles are open. Updated 10 October 2026.

Short answer. An IFS functional consultant turns how a business works into a configured IFS system. They run process workshops, set up the modules, test with users, train them and support go-live. They specialise by area, such as finance, supply chain, manufacturing, maintenance or projects, and they do not usually write code.

What the work looks like

  • Discover. Workshops to map current processes and agree how they will run in IFS.
  • Configure. Set up basic data, company structures, flows and permissions in the module.
  • Test and migrate. Write test scripts, support user acceptance testing and check migrated data.
  • Train and go live. Train key users, then stay close through cutover and the first weeks of live running.

Skills employers ask for

Depth in one business area matters most. After that: experience of at least one full implementation, IFS Cloud knowledge, and the ability to run a workshop with senior people. Technical consultants handle code and integrations, so functional consultants need to brief them well, not replace them.

Demand right now

The board lists 67 IFS functional consultant jobs out of 155 open roles. The busiest areas are Architecture (27), Technical / Development (26), Multi-module (20).

Questions people ask

What background do IFS functional consultants have?

Most come from the business area they now consult in: accountants into finance, planners into supply chain or manufacturing, maintenance engineers into EAM.
